Pithoragarh Town Uttarakhand

Pithoragarh is a town with a Municipal Board in the Pithoragarh region in the Indian territory of Uttarakhand, which was cut out of the Almora region in 1960. "The area is named after its central station town, Pithoragarh. 

Convention has it that amid the rule of the Chand Rajas of Kumaon, one Piru, additionally called Prithvi Gosain, manufactured a post here and named it Prithvigarh which, over the span of time, got changed into Pithoragarh."
